You can never go wrong with a red dress ❤️❤️❤️ . For date night this weekend I wore the red dress I made for Valentine’s Day. It’s an original design created by pattern hacking and draping. . The basis for the dress is the simple knit pencil dress pattern McCall’s 7999. I added the cutouts and a semi-circular drape attached to the waist and down each side slit. . The fabric is in 2 layers for added body and to facilitate the cutouts (rib knit on top of single knit) except for the drape. I attached an invisible band of elastic to the interior layer at the waist for even more structure, to offset gravity’s effects on the thin layers of fabric. . Both the double-breasted jacket and the pleated pants have pockets, which I love. I shortened the jacket by about 3 inches and added an optional belt. This is the same jacket I posted last week paired with a silk dress. . The hot pink crepe fabric is another winner from @stylishfabric — the exact color is hard to photograph! . I lined it with satin and used a really nice quality fusible horsehair for the interfacing. I’ve layered it over a turtleneck today for warmth, but swipe to see it on Thanksgiving sans turtleneck. . The gorgeous retro fabric (which is also wonderfully drapey and wrinkle-resistant) is from @stylishfabric . . The pattern is McCall’s 7969 - love the full sleeves on it. Cropped button-down shirts with crisscross ties are a trend from the 2000s which are back in style, but I haven’t seen any for less than $80 – so I easily made my own from a thrifted orange linen Ralph Lauren shirt. It had stains along the bottom hem, so it was a perfect candidate for a cropped shirt. . I made ties from the unstained portion of the cut fabric. The back of the shirt was very full, so I took up 2 pleats and inserted elastic into the back hem. . What do you think of the style — and the color combo? The last day of summer is feeling like fall here i The last day of summer is feeling like fall here in Chicago 🍂 Wearing a skirt I made from silk crepe fabric hand-printed with rust and natural dyes. And by “printed,” I mean my mom and I wrapped the fabric up with onion skins, powdered dye, and rusty objects and buried it in the dirt for a day or two! I used the entire rectangle of fabric, just cutting a strip for the waistband and gathering the rest of it to the band; so it was a nice zero-waste project. .
