About

Hi and welcome to my sewing blog! My name is Emily and I’ve been sewing my own clothes since I was 16. I also love to knit and crochet. I was lucky to have a mother who patiently got me started and taught me over the years.

I absolutely love fashion and being able to create my own unique wardrobe – it’s both an art and a celebration of life. I hope you’ll find many useful and enjoyable posts here to help inspire your own creative journey.

My story of self-expression through sewing has been one of gaining confidence in myself and my abilities. I was born with a rare craniofacial birth defect called Goldenhar Syndrome or hemifacial microsomia, and had many surgeries on my jaw and face growing up which altered my appearance dramatically.

I struggled mightily with self-acceptance well into adulthood, with all the accompanying depression and social anxiety, and yet bold fashion choices have always been a reminder for me of where I wanted to be in terms of confidence and comfort in my own skin, a place I’m very happy to be now (MOST of the time!). So you may occasionally find a little philosophy mixed in with the sewing posts.

I’m a digital artist in my day job and have worked as a comic book artist, K-12 gifted art teacher, and video game artist. Currently I work as a game artist and 2D animator for a slot machine company.

I am originally from Mississippi and now live in Chicago with my boyfriend, dog, and 2 cats.
